This was inspired by a number of emotions that overcame me at a blues gig. It was after Dutch Tilders passed away and there were some of his proteges playing on the Bill. I felt as though Dutch was in the room and I realised how much I missed him and his unique delivery and personality.

Lyrics

Come Hear The Blues Suzanne M Petersen ©Apra 2014

I felt invisible at first didn’t see anyone I know
I felt invisible at first didn’t see anyone I know
A whole new crowd, a whole new show

I almost felt a tear, roll down my face
I almost felt a tear, left without a trace
There was a time, a different place

I looked around for you, you weren’t too reappear
You passed away last year, but your presence is still near
When I saw some old friends, as I was leaving felt we said hello again

I’m glad that no one played any of your songs
I’m glad that no-one played any of your songs
I couldn’t take hearing them, they sound all wrong

Cause when you used to play you turned on everyone
And people couldn’t help lookin’ at you all night long
When I saw some old friends, as I was leaving, felt we said hello again

Come hear the blues, the melancholy blues
The blues that broke your heart when you paid your dying dues
(Repeat)
